Aha! Just realised it is my 'performance' that is being reviewed rather than my personal development needs! A misunderstanding of the meaning of the acronym.
At my research presentation last year some interesting questions were asked about why I would want to make work about my children and try to pass it off as research? So I guess I am currently trying to rationalise this and work out my methodology? This year, as yet, I haven’t taken any research leave to reflect on this in depth, but I am using this blog to collect my thoughts and track emerging themes. Firstly, I think it is very important to make clear that the work is about my experience of motherhood just as much or perhaps even more than it is about the children. My work has always been about rejecting the camera’s point of view as ‘male’ and through this particular work I am casting myself, the artist, as ‘a mother watching’. Occasionally, I too, appear in the work so I guess I am making an acknowledgement of self-portraiture within the work.
